This has probably been addressed already, but what happens when anonymous posts are reported and deleted? Do you then block the poster's IP address or e-mail address, or do you just keep letting them post. I've just noticed the anonymous posts on pop are out of control! There's a Jessica Simpson thread on Pop right now that is ridiculous. (Yes, I know I egged one of them on a bit, but it was too hard to resist). It's just getting so nasty, and if these people aren't being blocked the same way an out-of-control member is, it's just going to keep getting uglier. And that makes me sad.

Snarky, I have noticed the same thing on Pop these days, I have actually stopped going to Pop lately for that very reason!
1I agree. We have our community rules, but it seems as though people use the power of anonymity to bypass them, since they think they won't be caught. It doesn't make for a happy place!
2snarky.. you can do any fake email address to post in the anonymous section. I tried it once and it still went through.
3thanks myst! i was wondering if you could do that! so blocking an e-mail account would be irrelevant. lovely. seriously, pop is a scary place. i've been called a loser, "white" a "b*tch", etc by anon posters. half the time i provoke them cuz it's funny. once i got reamed out for calling suri cute. crazy.
4I am with Martini; I hardly ever visit Pop now that the comments are allowed to get so out of hand. I still don't understand why they started to allow anonymous comments in the first place.
5the anon members love the Brangelina post..that's where you'll really see the nastier side of people
6those are scary/hilarious.
7I quit visiting Pop a long time ago. Between the anon comments and the RPattz love, I just couldn't take it.
8I don't get the anon comments especially since almost all other celeb gossip sites now make people register to comment. Sugar,Inc is going backwards in this instance
9I can't even believe how bad the anonymous comments have gotten
10Annoymous comments have ruined Pop. I rarely even read Pop anymore, let alone comment. I have seen threads where 95% of the comments were annoymous and usually they're pretty nasty.
We're always told to report things but it's obvious Sugar is letting it be a free for all. The only good thing that annoymous comments are good for is traffic which translates to revenue.
11I agree- the anon comments suck the cool factor away from Pop. Now it's like every other dumb website.
12Anon comments are my Lex Luthor.
13Hey Everyone, We take all of our comments and especially the reported comments very seriously! Once something has been reported, it is handled by my team! Depending on severity of the comment will determine how it is handle. If there is real nastiness, we do our best to ensure that person does not return to the PopSugar Network!
So please continue to report anything that breaks our Community Rules, it helps immensely!
14thanks!
15Thanks, CM!
16If such a big percentage of the anonymous comments are viewed as a problem from members, why is it even an option?
While I definitely think it's important that the members report comments, isn't it essentially the responsibility of Sugar Inc. to monitor the site and set the tone? As a member, It doesn't make it enjoyable if you have to continually report people every time you read a thread on Pop. And if there aren't a lot of reported comments it's not because we don't find them objectionable, it's because we're tired of reporting on something that continues to be a problem.
I can't speak for everyone, I can only share that in the conversations I've had with many friends here on Sugar, it's obvious that what we think is a break in the rules and what ruins the atmosphere and sense of community is very different from what Sugar considers to be a problem. And that I believe is the real issue. In my circle of friends, not one of us enjoys going to Pop anymore, not one. And no one has ever expressed anything positive about anonymous posters. CM, I appreciate that you and your team take the reported comments seriously but essentially there have been so many changes that I don't think there is an alignment between Sugar and many of its core members anymore. Sugar use to be an amazing place to hang out with friends. I'm not adverse to changes, change is a good thing but I don't even recognize the place anymore and that makes me sad.
The only person I can truly speak for is myself and I accept that I may stand alone in the expression of my thoughts but thanks for listening anyway.
17No, I'm right there with you. I don't read a single Sugar site since they messed with Team. I skim through Pop once a day and skip past at least 95% of the content and the 5% that I read I wouldn't waste my time commenting on because the comments have become an unruly free for all. I agree with the commenter who said that Sugar has gone backwards in that respect, and I also agree that I've never read a single positive remark regarding the introduction of anonymous comments from the core Sugar membership so i really don't know why, from a business perspective, when you have created a product that has a huge, loyal fanbase, you then change that product in precisely the ways in which the core users want it to stay the same. That applies to the introduction of anonymous comments and the ensuing dissolution of the community spirit on Sugar, which was precisely why people loved it, and the decision to do away with Team, even though everyone pleaded for it to stay.
And I don't buy CM's "we take this all very seriously" attitude for one minute. If you took any of this very seriously you would see that anonymous comments have alienated the core community from the Sugar sites and writers, and you would do away with them. It's an experiment that hasn't worked.
18Since the change over or, new and improved Sugar sites as the powers that be like to call them, I only use this website as a host for my private group and that's it. I find the new format annoying and am in a quest for another host site so I can leave here forever. I don't like any of the changes AT ALL..it's obvious that the emphasis is now squarely on revenue and not on user satisfaction.
19**Snarky: I know which one you are talking about in your post. I saw her comments and it was horrible, and it is a person with the name 'Anonymous' and the profile name is 'Anonymous' and there is no profile to click on....
