Dear Sugar Inc,
I'll start off. I love your site. I was first drawn to this site back in May to follow the celebrities stories and gradually moved on to the other sites. One of the reasons that I love this site was because it was very user friendly and aesthetically pleasing. However that is no longer the case.
This new layout is literally an eye sore for me. It's too busy with too many pictures all over the place. As someone with slight astigmatism, it actually hurts my eyes to see so much going on all at once.. It also takes longer for the pages to load and I'm high speed internet.
This new layout also removes one of my favorite feature. I can no longer see any new blogs that's been posted on the bottom of the pages under TeamSugar which is unfortunate as I actually like to read different people's blogs and post on them.
I am also not the only person who've complained about this layout. I see many posters openly complain about this new layout. So please go back to the old layout but if you must change the layout, please make one that is more user friendly and one that is not quite as busy as this new one.
True Religion
Myst - I agree. The new main page is too busy. The old page, IMHO, had a friendly almost happy air about it. The new one is almost severe in the way it looks.
I found that if I click on my username at the top left of the main page and then click on Teamsugar profile, I can then scroll to the bottom of my profile page and see the listing of new posts for each of the Sugar sites. It's a pain because of all the steps to get where I want to go.
1amen!
2I was wondering if there was something wrong with my internet, because all the sugar sites are loading super slowly. I'm glad it's not just me.
This site is busy and irritating to the eyes even if you don't have astigmatism.
3Team - I agree. Please do something to make the sugar sites more user-friendly!
I HATE that the box that used to appear in the upper right hand corner is now gone - it is more difficult to get to my Unreads, etc. now.
It also takes longer for the pages to load and I'm high speed internet.
This new layout also removes one of my favorite feature. I can no longer see any new blogs that's been posted on the bottom of the pages under TeamSugar which is unfortunate as I actually like to read different people's blogs and post on them.
What Myst said...
4Thank you I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. I can't even go into Popsugar as much anymore as it became really painful to even try to read any of the posts. Now I see they are moving to make all of the Sugar sites like this and I don't think I'll be able to take it.
So please write to them and send them your sentiments. We must be heard.
5I've been a member for over 2 years and they have had several layout changes in the past. Everything just takes a while to get used to. Give them some time to iron out the kinks and then see where you stand.
6Thank you Myst!!! Good to know others are having trouble in getting Popsugar to load correctly, even w/ high speed internet. Also, I do not like the new 'registered' icon. I prefer the old icon where your membership status was displayed.
7CocoChic, I've been a member for over two years, as well, so I've seen the same changes you have. And every change has made the site better, more fun to use, and easier to read. But this was a step in the wrong direction.
8I agree with everything Myst said.
9I have to agree. Not only is it heavily image overloaded. It's boring to me. The small things that kept me amused are being stripped away for the monotone, drabness of the new layout. Not to mention I work hard for my points and to be able to show off my status!
10I agree as well - the new sugar site is not user friendly at all nor is it aesthetically appealing.
11I just don't want everything to be onsugar. Like our personal page on onsugar is not as fun as on Team. It's messy and dull and lots of stuff is left off. And what about our private groups if everything is onsugar?
12I'll guess we'll just have to see what happens and hope for the best.
While I'm slowly getting used to the new look, I do agree that not having the box that used to appear in the upper right hand corner makes it more difficult to get to unreads, etc. The log in gets lost in the thin black heading for me.
13That box and the new blogs at the bottom are sorely missed.
14Coco is right. Changes are bound to happen. And these changes are for the best. I know a lot of you are unhappy with the changes but you mine as well face the fact that this is the direction Sugar is taking the sites. I know it is major change and a lot of things are missing or not working, thus creating more tension/confusion for the users. The Sugar staff is really good about adding things that we users really like (for example: the NEW link for comments). I am sure if you post about certain things that you really liked before the changes, the staff will try figure out some way of making it happen if it is in high demand.
My best advice to any of you who dislike the changes is to just try to adjust to them. The changes are for the better good of the site as a whole. In the long run, you will really enjoy the site/layout. The staff won't leave us hanging but the changes don't happen overnight. Once everything is in place, it will all make sense, until then, just sit tight and make do with what you have.
15oh and for those of you who enjoy the new posts listed at the bottom, try http://hypersugar.com/ for the latest comments and posts.
16I think that is what most of us are doing. Trying to let the team team know which things are missed sorely. And hypersugar? Never even heard of that.
17Or, Jen, we could let the sugar people know how we feel so they might make the site better and more user friendly. Why should we just adjust to a format we don't like? I think a lot of people would rather just come less often or stop visiting the site altogether.
18Hyper sugar has way too much going on the fulfill all user needs.
19Wow, hyper sugar is busy! Apt name. Things were moving as I was trying to read them. I can't see in a million years how that is supposed to be more user friendly than the nice neat boxes for each site at the bottom of the screen. And what is the map? It just says loading for me.
20the map just shows where ppl are commenting from.
Kastarte2, I didn't mean for anyone not to share how they feel or want changed. That is one of the awesome things about Sugar is that there is platform for users to be heard. But I all I keep reading is I don't like the new look. and as blunt as this may sound: it's not going to stay the same....
21Jennjenn, I just checked out the hypersugar site. That's the first and last time I will ever go again. Everything was all over the place, which I guess why it's aptly name HyperSugar. I don't care if they want to change the look of the site, I have a problem when they make it less user friendly. The OnSugar look sucks, the profile page is boring, and damn it, some of us worked hard for our status and want to display what it is, not when who registered which none of us give a damn about.
22The look isn't the problem. It is the stripping away of user friendly features that is the problem. Why should I have to click on a box to take me to a link to take me to a page to see something that used to be visible at the top of every page? How is that "more zippy" or user friendly?
23Yeah I understand your issues with your status. I have seen that mentioned elsewhere so I am sure the staff will work on fixing that sometime soon. As for the OnSugar look, maybe once all the Sugar sites have been changed over, the staff will work on enhancing the look afterwards. idk but that is how it seems to be with previous changes.
Sorry that you guys are having issues with HyperSugar. That's about the only place I know to tell you guys to find the newest posts from across the sites. You could try Sugar Rush (http://teamsugar.com/rush) for your friends posts. Maybe that will be a little busy for you all.
24*a little LESS busy for you all...
25I hope so Jenn, I can't even venture into PopSugar, because all I see are pictures everywhere and it's really an eye sore. I've been sticking to DearSugar and CitizenSugar for the past week but they've changed Citizen today and it's just too much stuff for me. Less is more IMO
26I hate the new layout and I hate this new association with onsugar. I am not interested in blogging. I can probably get used to changes in format, but I cannot understand why my inbox is now associated with onsugar instead of teamsugar. Once you are at onsugar, there is no link to the other sugar sites. The only way to read the email in your inbox and then read popsugar is to use the "back" button in your browser. Surely this can be fixed.
27jennjennn - I don't mean any offense, but I'm curious as to how you think/know that all the changes are for the best? The people posting in this thread are a just a fraction of the people I've seen posting in other groups etc who are unhappy with the Sugar changes. It would seem to me that the powers that be at Sugar Publishing would rather deep six the changes that everyone is upset about rather than lose subscribers. At least I would hope so, anyway.
kastarte - I completely agree.
28Trixie, from what I have read from the geeks/staff comments, the changes are to better Sugar. To make it easier and faster and better. So I am just going from that. There have been a lot of Sugar changes and they have all turned out for the best in the long run, meeting both Sugar Inc. needs as well as the end users needs.
I can't speak for Sugar Inc. nor am I trying to but I highly doubt these changes are going to undone. Obviously it is something that the staff needs to do or the changes wouldn't be happening. As they say, you can't make everyone happy so I guess if some ppl leave because of a slight adjustment in layouts, then so be it. But I know I will be sticking around...
29The problem is Jenn, these changes haven't made it easier, faster, or better. It's more difficult to navigate and makes the pages longer to load, and picture overload. They're tons of ways they could've changed the format of the site to make do all of these things. This was a huge step in the wrong direction.
30for now, yes, things are going to be a little off but the end result will be easier. faster. better.
31amen
32Whaaaaaaaaaaaa!?
Are they planning to get rid of Team and replace it altogether
with onsugar? That would be insane!!!
33Agreed. I love the main team page. In fact, it's the only one I like now.
34It's all I use.. I would probably stop coming to the site if they got rid of Team and that would really, really suck
35I hate to say I agree. I used to use citizen like a mad woman, as did quite a few others, but there was a decline there as well.
36Oh I believe there was a decline on Citizen.. who could take all of that craziness daily.
37lol, true. But secretly laying off the citizen sugar we all knew and replacing her without telling anyone but keeping the same character and name didn't help!
38If they replace Team with Onsugar, what about our groups!??!!
39Wow how sneaky, I had no idea.. what the heck is going on around here? I stay in the private groups most of the time and never know what is going on!
I don't know Lauren.. I hope Team will let us in on what they are planning to do
And I reaaaaally hope they don't want to get rid of Teamsugar.
40who said they were replacing Team with On??
41I'm so confused about everything. I'm just sticking to my groups for now, it hurts my head every time I go to Pop. I believe that in time I can get use to the new format but I'm pretty upset with the changes that make it difficult to navigate the site. At the moment, I don't see any changes that benefit us as the members. I'm not exactly sure what we're waiting for that will seem so grand
42I'm really, really hoping that Team in not completely replaced with On. That would just suck.
I noticed that the main PopSugar page has gone back to the pretty, friendly white and pink of old. Thank you to the powers that be at Sugar Publishing for making that change! The page doesn't look as busy, either.
I, for one, appreciate it that you're all listening.
43Count me in as someone who cannot take the new format. I really really don't like onsugar at all. This really jars my eyes and I use it at work -I need something that is less flashy and not as insane. At the VERY least - please give us an option to switch the skins and format so that people like like the new versions can have that while those of us that prefer the older ones can switch back.
44Hahaha Geepers I like your pic
45Oh i am so in agreement with you Myst. I don't like the new layout at all.
Asides from the fact that it's taking longer to load and is definitely harder to navigate, I miss having my teamsugar profile info visible on the top of the page, so i can see if I have new messages or check my unreads with one click of a button rather than trying to navigate my way to my teamsugar profile.
I also have no interest in onsugar, I have no interest in having a blog, and while I can see that it's a great tool for those people who wanted to have a blog, why not let people opt to have it if they want it?
46I'm with everyone who has complained so far. And if they replace Teamsugar with all this Onsugar thing I'm not sure I'll keep visiting the site -- I like my sugar friends, I love the interaction on Teamsugar and posting on people's guestbooks, adding my favorite movies and tv shows (which by the way I can't do anymore because whenever I click on the movie's icon I'm redirected to a completly different page)...it's much healthier than anywhere else.
Plus -- and like most people have said already -- there are too many things going on at the same time! Even though I have a perfect eyesight I find it confusing, heavy, just plain ugly. The old layout was "cleaner".
47Thanks for this post, Myst
48I'm not ready to give up until all of the changes are made; it looks like the Sugars are still updating and, in fact, responding to some of our concerns. Until I'm certain that I can't get used to the changes, I'm sticking with Team and all of the other sites.
49I think it's great that everyone is posting their concerns instead of just leaving this social network all together. It's important that the staff knows how its viewers' feel. Personally, my favorite site is Teamsugar. If teamsugar were gone, I probably would not come on here as much, if at all. I agree with Linda McP. I am not gonna give up until all the changes are made.
